Ketamine IV Infusions
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a fast-acting general anesthetic and a medication used for pain management and for treatment-resistant depression.
How does it work?
It works by blocking the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)—which is involved in the regulation of mood and emotional processing—receptor in the brain and has a different action mechanism than traditional antidepressants.
When ketamine blocks this receptor, it causes an increase in the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which promotes the growth and survival of neurons in the brain. This increased BDNF activity is believed to play a key role in repairing the brain and treating depression.
Ketamine can be administered in four ways: intravenous infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, or oral consumption.
Why do we use IV infusions at Infused Health?
Intravenous (IV) administration of ketamine is used by Infused Health for several reasons:
-
Rapid Onset: IV ketamine is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream which provides fast relief of depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and pain. This makes it ideal for use for individuals who want to achieve quick results.
-
Consistent Dosing: IV administration of ketamine allows for precise control of the dose, ensuring consistent results.
-
Low Risk of Respiratory Depression: Unlike other sedatives, IV ketamine has a low risk of respiratory depression, making it a safer option for patients with respiratory issues.
-
Effective for Treatment: IV ketamine has been shown to be effective in managing both mental health and pain. It provides fast relief without the need for high doses.
-
Longer Lasting Effects: IV ketamine has a longer duration of action compared to other routes of administration, meaning it can provide longer-lasting pain relief.
